The Melee (also known as Tactical Knife) is a melee weapon in VALORANT.

Summary

“

When in doubt or out of bullets, hit them with this. Lets you run fast, destroy objects faster, or one-shot enemies in the back with alt. fire.

”

The Melee is a base melee weapon provided to every player, and cannot be dropped. It has two modes of fire: one being a fast slashing motion, and the other being a sharp jab. The primary slash has a three swing combo that loops, while the alternate slash deals more damage in a single strike but with a longer recovery and slightly smaller range and hitbox. The weapon also deals double damage when striking the target's back.

Scoring a kill with this weapon rewards the same number of creds as a regular kill. All kills with any weapon skin using Melee will use the standard kill banner.

Unlike guns, which reduce a player's movement speed whilst equipped, the player remains at the standard run speed of 6.75 m/s whilst they have this weapon equipped, meaning it is the fastest weapon to run with in standard gameplay.

v4.01

• Right click hitboxes are now 1.5x larger.
• Left click hitboxes are now larger than a right click and have slightly longer range.
• Targets closer to the center of your knife attacks will get hit first.
• Knifing walls now has instant feedback when slicing up walls (predicted on the client side)

• Melee attacks now inflict double the damage per hit to destructibles, including:
  • Barrier Orb
  • Haven's metal double doors

Unlike other weapon skins,

• all Melee skins are classed as Exclusive edition despite their prices, model changes, or having available upgrades and/or variants.
• the weapon name may differ from their collection name.

Trivia

• The Melee is the only weapon:
  • that cannot be dropped in-game (excluding special weapons made for other game modes, such as Snowball Launcher).
  • that cannot be requested or purchased during buy phase, due to the fact that it is always equipped.
  • that cannot be equipped with a buddy.
    • Champions 2024 Blade is the only exception to this, however it cannot be equiped with its own buddy but rather sharing with Champions 2024 Phantom should the skin be fully upgraded and equipped.
  • where skins do not necessarily follow standard naming conventions like other weapons (e.g. ChronoVoid's Phantom is "ChronoVoid Phantom", but the melee is instead known as "Terminus A Quo").
    • It is also the only weapon that may change its name if the melee is capable of being upgraded (e.g. Ruination's "Broken Blade of the Ruined King" at level 1, "Blade of the Ruined King" at level 2).
  • where information about the range and damage cannot be found in-game without the help of using the training bot in Range.
  • that can have multiple melees from the same collection.
  • with no custom kill banner and audio for any skin.
  • that belongs to its own category with the same name, "Melee".
  • where damage can be amplified without the usage of abilities (such as Vulnerable).
    • The double damage upon a successful hit in an enemy's back bears a resemblance to Counter-Strike game series' backstab mechanic.
