Scions there shall be.
Tending the turn of the hourglass.
To safeguard truths forbidden.
Pruning vine, burning word.
And confine all to the abyss.
For the hourglass turns.

— A Scions of Hourglass proclamation

The Scions of Hourglass is an organization in the world of VALORANT. Before the existence of radianite became widely known, they had attempted to keep its existence a secret. The organization is now known to have been targeting Kingdom Corporation's Project Landfall, and has more recently come into conflict with the VALORANT Protocol.

History[]

Prior to the modern rediscovery of radianite around 0 YFL, the Scions of Hourglass aimed to keep the existence of the substance a secret from the public. They claimed a reason for this was that the world wasn't ready to utilize the full potential of radianite yet. To enforce this, the organization would hire assassins to eliminate targets in a kill directive called "Shrouded Step".[1]

One of the organization's most valuable assets was an operative known as "Ghost". On one mission under Shrouded Step, he was sent to assassinate the Kingdom scientist Dr. Sabine Callas. Ghost had been able to go undercover and infiltrate the lab where she worked but he failed in his attempt to kill her, as a vial of chemicals ended up splashing into his face, with the face covering of his hazmat suit being damaged in the fight. Ghost then ended up being locked in a test chamber by Dr. Callas. As he tried to punch his way out, Dr. Callas activated the chamber with Ghost inside.[1]

Many years later, with radianite's existence now long known to the population of Alpha, the Scions of Hourglass started targeting Kingdom Corporation's Project Landfall, sending their assassins to eliminate anyone connected to its research. One of these was young fixer Li Zhao Yu. During this time however, the SoH discovered that Ghost was still alive and had become the phantom now known as "Omen", working for a covert organization called the VALORANT Protocol alongside his previous target, Sabine "Viper" Callas. With Li providing such success on his missions that rumors had started to spread within Kingdom itself about him, the SoH gave him the mission to assassinate Omen. Li was able to find his way into the Protocol itself as a new recruit, "Iso", claiming to their agents that he wanted to defect from the SoH. As Li bided his time for the right opportunity to complete his mission however, his observations of the Protocol as he got to know the organization more caused him to reflect on the differences between them and the SoH, with the Protocol appearing as an actual force of good. Truly defecting from the SoH now, Iso informed Omen of their assassination order on him. The Protocol would later, using intel supplied from Iso's knowledge of the SoH, carry out strikes against the SoH to help Omen get his answers, taking down a base in Casablanca, Morocco that led them to Iso's former boss, who was located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Also having worked with Ghost in the past, the boss was able to restrain Omen when the agent came to confront him, taunting Omen by revealing some info about who he used to be as he tried to destroy him with an energy beam. Omen was able to break free however and ended up throwing the boss out of a penthouse window to his death.[2][3][1]

The Scions worked quickly to remove any remaining presence in Jakarta after this incident, removing any bodies and items held at the skyrise before the VALORANT Protocol was able to reinvestigate the site. Not long after this though, the organization then lost possession of key journal that was procured by Omen at a library in Edinburgh. This proved disastrous for the SoH as it led to the Protocol discovering the location of their Elder Grotto in the underground of Jan Mayen Island. When a VP strike team arrived, Hourglass' forces at the facility were not enough to prevent the Protocol from securing the site for themselves. This time, there was no opportunity for the Scions to scrub the base before fully retreating, leaving many artifacts, records, and files to come into the Protocol's possession, with only system failsafes and damage inflicted to servers during the strike preventing the VP from having complete access to their archives, something that at least kept personnel files inaccessible.

Reckoning Penthouse Trap

VALORANT Protocol agent Omen is incapacitated within an energy beam

  • Energy Beam: One SoH cell built a machine into the ceiling of the penthouse in their Jakarta skyscraper that produced this type of beam and used it to incapacitate the phantom Omen.
    • It was further intended for the beam to be able to rip the radiant apart, though the process took too long to achieve its goal before Omen was eventually able to get free.
    • The beam's intensity was controlled by a small handheld device, with the gauge appearing as an hourglass.

Trivia[]

  • The organization's Omega counterpart was first teased in REVELATION Episode 6 cinematic.
    • It is revealed that the organization has intel regarding the hidden location of the City of Flowers. This information is obtained by Ω-Fade and transferred to agents of Valorant Legion, alerting them to finally carry out their mission to activate the nexus.
